Why global warming is cooling in the polls

Pew research group released a poll on October 22nd that showed 57% of Americans believe that man is responsible for global warming, down from 77% three years prior in 2006 and 14 points down since April 2008, when 71% .

Pew Research Center for the People & the Press polled 1,500 adults, asking them: “Is there solid evidence the Earth is warming?” Only 36% of respondents thought the earth’s temperature was rising because of manmade pollution.

The anthropogenic argument has steadily been losing weight among scientists and laypeople alike as most of the “science” behind global warming is based on a consensus of conclusion-jumping and hysteria. And more bluntly because all of the dire predictions and doomsday scenarios just don’t come true; while skeptics have made great strides toward educating the public at large about the science, it is the proponents and propagandists that have likely been doing the most damage to their own cause:

Ted Danson stated that the oceans would be dried-up in ten years…about twenty years ago.

"We'll be eight degrees hotter in 30 or 40 years and basically none of the crops will grow, most of the people will have died and the rest of us will be cannibals." - Ted Turner in PBS interview with Charlie Rose

"I propose a limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting." - Sheryl Crow.

"It's like the difference between an ice cube floating in a glass of water, which when it melts doesn't raise the level of water in the glass, and a cube sitting atop a stack of ice cubes, which melts and flows over the edge. That's why the citizens of these pacific nations all had to evacuate to New Zealand." - Al Gore in an Inconvenient Truth.

And it’s not only the loony quotes, but the outright refusal of these same activists to field any debate or answer any questions. On October 9th, 2009, environmental journalist Phelim McAleer asked former Vice President Al Gore about the many errors found in his documentary by the British High Court. Gore not only refused to answer the questions and even went to so far as to say the court ruling which Mr. McAleer cited was in the favor of the documentary – it wasn’t.

Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney have made a documentary that challenges Mr. Gore’s movie, Not Evil, Just Wrong. This among other documentaries, in which more scientists are turning skeptic, have been making rounds on the internet, such as Global Warming - Doomsday Called Off, and The Great Global Warming Swindle.

Refusing debate, unrealized doomsday divinations, and preposterous pronouncements, coupled with a near non-existent summer in the northeast and northwest this year have more of an impression on the American people than any supposed science.

Bailout fallout: GM shuts down Saturn

General Motors announced it will shut down Saturn brand after falling to reach a purchase agreement with Penske Automotive Group.

Penske Automotive Group broke the deal because it was uncertain it could maintain vehicle production after its contract with GM sunsets as Penske had lost an arrangement with an unidentified automotive manufacturer to make the Saturn brand, in a company statement Penske said, "Without that agreement, the company has determined that the risks and uncertainties related to the availability of future products prohibit the company from moving forward with this transaction."

On the heels of the Penske pull-out, GM CEO Fritz Henderson wrote in a statement that Saturn and its dealership group would be phased out as GM will stop manufacturing the Saturn brand by the end of 2010.

Saturn sales fell from a high point of 285,600 in 1995 to 188,004 in 2008. Saturn has 350 remaining dealers in the 50 states.
